School Accommodation

The school is of a semi-open plan design. There are 14 class bases, 6 in Foundation and Key Stage 1 and 8 in Key Stage 2. There are two halls which provide space for assemblies and PE. School meals are prepared on the site and served in the Dining Area for Key Stage 2 children and in the Key Stage 1 School Hall for the younger children.

In Key Stage 2, the refurbishment of one of the teaching spaces into a computer suite was completed in September 1997. The school is fully networked with Broadband connection. In Key Stage 1 there are 4 computers in each class base, all of which can access the internet. A new computer suite was completed in KS1 in June 2008.

There are Reference Libraries in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 buildings.

In addition to the permanent buildings, we have four mobile classrooms on the site. These offer accommodation for the Children's Centre, Burleigh Hill Pre-School and Wheatfields Kid’s Club. The remaining mobile is used as extra teaching space for group work. Wheatfields Nursery is also housed in a mobile building in the school's grounds.

There are play areas at the rear of the buildings which are marked out for P.E. and Games activities and, when the weather is fine, games and play facilities are extended by the use of the school field.

The new Primary School is working with the County Council to develop the site as a result of the amalgamation of the Infant and Junior Schools to form Wheatfields Primary School. Over the summer holidays of 2006 building work was undertaken, mainly on the Key Stage 2 side of the site, to relocate the Library, Inclusion area and the Headteacher’s office. Part of this refurbishment included an improved Reception area. There was also additional work to improve the quality of several of the classrooms. In October 2007 a link corridor was completed which joined the two sites.  As part of the development of the new school, the KS2 Hall was extended in 2007 and now accommodates all the Primary School children.
