      Releashan

Surrounding Atrus’ house, was a huge desert with high mountains and red sand. As I looked behind me, I saw that I was in a vast green house. The sound of wind chimes filled the air; large exotic plants stood tall in the glass green house and a lady appeared wearing a blue dress made from silk with a swirly gold pattern on it. She was holding what looked like a newly – born baby.

“Hello” she said, “I am Catherine, Atrus’ wife. He will be with you very shortly. Could you please go and wait in his study.”

“O.K.” I replied stumbling into the old dark office. It was crammed with shelves which were crammed with books to old dusty ones to newly- bought ones with silver spines and burgundy leather covers. His desk was covered with parchment and scientific instruments. A roughly- hewn crystal was held under a magnifying glass. The floor was made of a circular ceramic pattern. Then my gaze fell upon a book under a glass dome. The book had a maroon cover with golden writing on it and a bronze spine. I also noticed it was secured with a steel padlock.
“Ah, there you are,” said a greeting voice, “Catherine did tell me you were here.”

He paced round the room with his hands behind his back and his head low. Atrus’ wore jade green robes with golden lining and he had half moon spectacles perched on his nose.
“Must tell you something important,” he exclaimed quite suddenly, breaking a long silence, “I have been writing a world called Releashan.

Then I remembered that title on the book under the dome.
“Why has it got a padlock on it?” I asked
“Oh,” he replied, “you have already seen it.”
He walked to the dome.
“What do you want to tell me?”

“Come here,” he called, “now this is a linking book, but with this particular book it gives the user power and if misused it can tear worlds apart.”

As I listened to him, I thought, why am I here then.
“You are here to move it to a new hiding place, Saavedro has found out its location.”
He stepped over to his desk. I could see he was going to say some thing else just as a creepy humanoid appeared by the dome.

“Saavedro, how did you get past the protective shields and spells?” pondered Atrus.
He did not answer; instead he picked up a lantern and threw it in our direction. It ignited the curtain.
Saavedro wore old rags (but no deodorant by the smell of things.) His nose was sharp and bony. He had long, untidy, greasy hair. Smashing the glass dome, he grabbed the book and teleported.
“RUN!” cried Atrus, “use the other linking book and follow him!”

I did as he commanded and seconds later I was in a different world. My book told me it was Jnanin. It was a rocky, grey beach landscape. Towering above me were huge tusks with windows in them. The smell was salty from the sea. I could hear waves crashing upon the side of the rocks. I took a step forward and looked into a three sided telescope which had a glass orb on top. But all it showed me was either the landscape or jet black nothingness. I raced down to the shore. Just then, I saw a bronze object in the light. When I reached it I realised it was the lining of an under ground tunnel. I leapt into it and saw a wooden control panel. Out of curiosity, I pulled one of the levers. A huge creak came, then I saw a huge ball on a wooden bridge. I pulled the other lever, I could hear the same creak and the bridge moved on its hinges, so the ball rolled. It crashed into a door that was on the end of the bridge. Immediately I ran to the door. Inside there was a panel with four bronze balls and a button in the centre. I found out what I had to do quickly, but it took me about half an hour to work out the right combination. For some strange reason, a sword fell and just missed me. I picked it up to look at it. The sword had a ruby encrusted handle, an emerald hilt and a steel blade. Upon closer inspection I saw a note which I untied and read.

Some doors do not open because of enchantments. With this you can smash right through them.

Atrus

As I held the sword, I wondered how Atrus knew I would come here to this spot before he made this world?

Climbing out of the tunnel, I ventured off  to another part of the island. I crawled down to an exotic area with lush green grass, pink bulbs and glowing blue mushrooms. There was a bridge over some water which led to a highly decorated house with stained glass windows. Inside was a mixture of plants and metal gates. I pushed a button and a gate fell open. It led to an office with a painting of a ginger-haired lady with her eyes scrubbed out on the wall. Seeing an old lift with gold engravings, I walked around and studied it before going into it. Once I was inside, the lift shot up. As it stopped with a sudden jolt, I turned around and saw Saavedro, in a room. I tried to open the door, but it wouldn’t budge.  Then I remembered the sword, I unclipped it from my belt, but as I did so, Saavedro  began to taunt me.

“Come ta rescue ya precious little book have ya!”

I swiped the wooden door down, burst in, but almost immediately rope came from the ground and wrapped around my ankles, I dropped my sword.

“Give me the book Saa or when I get my sword, I’ll slice you like cheese!”
“Oh by the time you get out of there you will be far too late!” Saavedro replied, grabbing the book and leaving.  Later he came back wearing black robes with silver edging. He put Releashan in the air so it floated, then he got three glass orbs: one red, one blue, one purple.

“Aren’t those orbs from the telescope thingamagiggies?” I questioned.

“Very good.” he replied, “They are a key element in my plan to seek control, which you will now witness.”

After the very brief explanation of his plan, he began to mutter strange incantations. Suddenly the book sucked two orbs into its pages. I got my knife out while he closed his eyes and cut through the ropes. As he was about to put the final orb in, I picked up my sword and lunged at Saavedro, but  he swung an Asian sabre out of his robe and dropped the orb on the floor. We began to clash swords. All you could hear was the ring of steel against steel. After nearly ten minutes of Kendo mixed with fencing mixed with Samurai, I slashed my sword at the orb on the floor and smashed it.
Saavedro screeched in terror, so I took me opportunity to slice at him (I won’t go into detail with that though) I grabbed Releashan and returned to Atrus house. But something was wrong; it was too quiet. I then went to the greenhouse room and all of the once flourishing plants were burnt to a crisp. My gaze fell upon a note. I picked it up and read it.

Dear Aston

When you went to get the book Saavedro’s friends came and raised our greenhouse to the ground. Catherine died in the blaze.
Then I remembered the painting with the eyes scrubbed out.
I managed to get out.

Atrus
p.s.  Destroy Releashan

Later I set a fire and threw the book onto the flames.

“Hasta la vista Releashan!”
